Teebz Loves to Travel
Dusseldorf February 2026
It was such a treat to spend time with my niece, Jaime had traveled from Johannesburg to attend a retail expo in Dusseldorf. In 2025, I was blessed enough to be able to go back to South Africa for the first time in ten years. While there, Jaime and I were able to spend quality time together especially when she drove me down to KwaZulu Natal to visit my brother.
Whilst on that journey, she mentioned that she may be accompanying her boss to the expo in Dusseldorf. I was very excited as because I live in the UK, I can travel relatively cheaply to almost anywhere in Europe. Once confirmed, we spoke often and while Jaime arranged to stay an extra few days, I booked us a hotel for the few days and met her in Dusseldorf.
The weather was mild and Jaime, who is a natural born organiser, arranged our days and outings. There were two main highlights for me.
1. The Classic Remise.
A spectacular museum that specialises in the display of vintage, classic and expensive motor vehicles. My dad and Jaime’s grampa loved cars! When we saw them I could hear daddy’s voice saying “I had one of those.”
2. Cologne Cathedral.
Although not in Dusseldorf, we dedicated one day to going on the train to see the magnificently gothic Cologne Cathedral. It was spectacular, the ancient masonry, intricately carved alcoves, walls and protectives gargoyles was truly a sight to behold.
When not on a specific mission, we took great pleasure in walking the streets, checking out the shops, enjoying the various coffee shops and bakeries.
Only an aunt can describe the relationship with her nieces and nephews, Jaime is my most trusted, most important confidant and spending time, just the two of us was the best of all.
I will not apologise for thinking that the respect and trust I have for her is second only to the love and trust I have in my husband. I love my children, but the older they get, the more proud I am, the more I feel them slipping away. I have never felt that my relationship with Jaime was ever slipping away.
